If your BSU username and password do not work or if there are Email problems:

A. Double-check your username and password. They are case-sensitive.

B. For assistance regarding your BSU username and password, please see:
cms.bsu.edu/about/administrativeoffices/ucs/username.aspx

C. For distance education students, there is a separate help page with contact information:
http://cms.bsu.edu/Academics/CollegesandDepartments/
OnlineandDistanceEducation/CurrentStudents.aspx
or, you can call the School of Extended Education at 1-800-872-0369 (8-5 M-F). Distance education students can also call the Computing Services help desk toll-free at 1-866-771-3276.

D. Maybe your BSU Email account is full. Visit
http://www.bsu.edu/webmail/
and log in to the BSU Email Support Console. You might have to delete some of those inbox and sent messages.

E1. For on-campus students, visit the University Computing Services Help Desk in RB 165 with a picture ID and they'll give you a new password.

E2. Extended (distance) education students can often get help by calling the BSU School of Extended Education at 1-800-872-0369 (8-5 M-F). Extended education students can also call the Computing Services help desk toll-free at 1-866-771-3276. However, the following note was sent out by the School of Extended Education concerning resetting passwords:

"In order to meet the standards set by Ball State University’s Information Security Program, effective October 1, 2007, the School of Extended Education can no longer reset forgotten passwords by telephone or e-mail requests.

"Based on this new policy, you are encouraged to register a personal e-mail address (such as home or work e-mail address) on the Password Web Site at https://www.bsu.edu/password. By registering a personal e-mail address on this Web site, you will be able to reset your password online should you ever forget it. You may watch a 90-second video Tech Clip that will walk you through the process of registering a personal e-mail address on the Password Web Site.

"If you do not register a personal e-mail address on the Password Web Site and you forget your username and/or password, you will need to complete a Password Reset Request Form to request a new password. Fax the completed form, including a copy of your driver's license, to University Computing Services Helpdesk at (765) 285-4189. You may also scan and e-mail the completed form to helpdesk@bsu.edu. If you need to contact the Helpdesk, you may call that office at 1-866-771-3276 or e-mail helpdesk@bsu.edu. Once the Helpdesk receives the completed form, the password will be reset and forwarded to the e-mail address provided on the request form within one to two business days.

"If you have questions, you may also contact the School of Extended Education at distance@bsu.edu

G. Contact the instructor. Even though the instructor is here to help you, password and Email problems sometimes require greater access authority than is available to instructors. Still, if you've exhausted other means, maybe the instructor can help you find an answer.

Contacts

If you need help with either the course content, or the logistics of using an online course system, please consider the following options:

1. Contact the Instructor.

The instructor can answer most questions concerning your course, and is your best source for clarification of any instructions.

4. Ask a fellow student.

Sometimes, communication with another student (or even someone outside the class) can help you think through a problem and gain a different perspective.
Use Blackboard's communication tools.

5. Get help from Blackboard.

Blackboard supplies a student manual that can help you use Bb.
Click on the "Tools" section to access the student manual.

6. Use other resources.

If you are not at the BSU campus, or even if you are, you might find the answers you are looking for at a library elsewhere, or through a phone call.

7. Build a network of colleagues.

By forming a large network of contacts and professional ties, you might find more than support and help.
